Ditching the Sugar to Ring in 2018…

I readily admit it – I over-indulged with sugar for the holidays this year, partly because it was a little more emotional than past years and partly because once I found myself on the never-ending sugar train I couldn’t derail. I’m sure you can all relate – it’s pretty amazing how eating something comforting can cause emotional rollercoasters. As a lifestyle, I maintain what people would probably see as a level of primal nutrition – I eat what’s good for my body on a consistent basis so when those sugar urges come I can satisfy them and move on. However, the holidays have always been my kryptonite and for the first time I felt almost every symptom that sugar causes in our systems and it was incredible to feel how horrible the sugar train can be for our health.

Sugar causes chaos in our digestive system which in turn causes chaos in our brain function, mood, skin and weight. I felt the bloating it caused, I felt that over-whelming depression or anger, my skin “broke out” and I experienced what some would call “brain fog”.  This to me is not thriving in life and that is important to how I live and how I inspire others to live. I know the other side – I know what it feels like to be consistently happy, have clear skin, feel uber-healthy and on-point.  For 2018 I am making a conscious decision to eliminate sugars in my nutrition and am thankful for feeling that awful so I could strive to live the optimal healthy life.

This also brought my attention to how people may feel all the time – brain fogged, angry or depressed, irritated skin and overweight.  The reality is a lot of us have not experienced just how wonderful it is to live in our own bodies and sugar may just be the key to allowing more of us to THRIVE.

I challenge anyone to really look at how much sugar they are consuming and either eliminate it or decrease the amount.  It won’t be an instant thing but if you are present in your life you’ll see the mood changes, the brain fog lifted, the clear skin and the weight loss.  Ultimately, my career and being is to help people live in their own skin and love it-eliminating sugar would by far be the first nutritional change I would suggest – I dare you all to make the choice to FEEL better! fullsizeoutput_1330
