Move with Intention…

Today I moved with intention throughout my workout, I would suggest this to anyone that is looking to increase their performance.  Not with the intention to kick my own ass but the intent to move slowly through each exercise to feel it for all it’s worth.  I try to do this everyday, not always successful, but each day that I do I feel better for it and progress.  After 16 years of playing rugby and working out with a “work harder not smarter” mentality I have discovered a controlled movement approach works MUCH better for me.  Once we heighten our awareness to what each joint and muscle does in our body, we can begin to workout and live more efficiently.

The way I see it is we are all given one body and individually we have to live in it every damn day, how I take care of it is reflected back into the world.

I believe that we are solely responsible for the body we live in, it is on us to feel good, be strong, and stay healthy throughout our lives.  The way that we move our body, feed our body and nourish it is directly reflected in our appearance and presence.  This can improve by moving with more awareness and challenging the body to new levels. Each exercise that I performed in my workout today I attempted to do with precision; recognizing each muscle that was working and the breath pattern that went along with it.  This takes practice and patience to get to for sure! Something as “simple” as a plank becomes a whole different exercise when each muscle = from your lats to your toes is contracted.  When we become passive in what we do no matter what it is we don’t get the same benefit in return. (You know that whole “you get out what you put in” mentality).

Ultimately we need to gain more trust and understanding of the body we live in because it’s what we’ve been given.  Next workout bring more awareness to your breath, any tightness from head to toe and how well you are able to move!  A great building block to create more awareness are Breathing Techniques.
